Social Responsibility
Since its foundation in 1997, Optenet has been firmly committed to eliminating the digital divide in society by spreading the benefits of the Internet and by encouraging it to be used effectively and without putting children at risk. For this reason, the company has participated in various projects involving, for example, the creation of a European network of child pornography hotlines (Project SECURENET) and the production of filtering and classification systems (Projects NETPROTECT II and SIFT and INFONET). In addition to these initiatives, endorsed by the European Commission's Safer Internet Programme, it has coordinated a project to develop techniques and tools for automatically classifying Internet content by analyzing the language used (Project SELECTA).
Optenet is a member of the Internet Watch Foundation, a consultative body run under the auspices of the British government that works with telecoms providers to combat online illegal content
In Spain, Optenet sponsors campaigns run by the NGO Protégeles to combat online child pornography. Protégeles is, in turn, a member of the International Association of Internet Hotlines, INHOPE.

About the IIA
The Internet Industry Association is Australia's national Internet industry organisation.
We currently have over 200 members, including telecommunications carriers, content creators and publishers, web developers, e-commerce traders and solutions providers, hardware vendors, systems integrators, banks, insurance underwriters, technology law firms, ISPs, educational institutions, research analysts, and those providing professional and technical support services.
Increasingly, our members also include businesses hoping to establish an effective online presence for the purposes of e-commerce.
On behalf of its members, the IIA provides policy input to government and advocacy on a range of business and regulatory issues, to promote laws and initiatives which enhance access, equity, reliability and growth of the medium within Australia.
Sustainability and Green IT
The ICT industry is responsible for 2% of CO2 emissions. Optenet is committed to a sustainable development model in the spirit of "Green Technology" with technological solutions that maximize energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
The clearest example of this commitment is the concept of virtualization and its business model based around telecoms operators. Instead of deploying the technology on-site for each client (corporate sector), Optenet implements it in the servers of the operators themselves and it is they who distribute it over their network as a managed service for millions of customers, removing the need to invest in equipment. In view of the fact that the lion's share of CO2 emissions from the ICT industry derive from the energy consumption of data centers, there is a direct relationship: less equipment means less consumption and, as a result, less environmental impact.
